Galleri Bergman
History
The gallery started when I had taken my exam from the art academy in 2006. I was at that time mainly doing time consuming installation works and that suited very bad in Helsinki where galleries have high rents and narrow time limits for exhibiting artists. I then decided to transform my working studio into a temporary gallery to show my own works. The initiative got appreciated and the idea to invite friends and colleagues to exhibit was born. The first in this series of exhibitions was held in 2007.
Agenda
Solidarity This means that the invited artists don't pay rent for the time they are exhibiting, but are seen as an access and attraction not only for the gallery but for the whole area. Galleri Bergman has as a goal to strength the rights and the possibilities for the individual to show their works and to ask questions on their surrounding. Galleri Bergman are tailor sewing exhibitions to suite the needs of the artist and to suite for an educational purpose (ex the galleries summer project

Ecology in September 2009 Galleri Bergman installed a set of solar panels on the roof of the building. The solar panels contributes to the electricity production to illuminate the newly installed LED lighting system in the gallery. This is one part of the creation of situations where the visitors latently can interact with questions regarding ecology and the near surroundings. For example the gallery presence have contributed to keep open one of the beautiful inner yards of Uudenmaankatu for the public at weekends. Many small creeks like that contributes to openness, understanding and a democratic development in society.
