I played in a band in my teens and early twenties, but then my interest in music kind of went into hibernation. It wasn´t until 2004 when I stayed at Finnish guitar hero Raul Björkenheim's studio in NYC for a couple weeks – and at the same time saw an exhibition with Mike Kelly at the Gaugausian gallery – that things got moving for me again musically. Kelly had an installation room filled with a brutal guitar-solo, and I was blown away. Back in Helsinki I initiated the freeform rock band IKIHEVONEN where our motto was "You can't do wrong in this band". We explored an area that encompassed freeform rock-music performance and also just plain stupidity – without actually trying to define our identity our position.
After this highly noised and very free form project my need to construct things got strong and I started to compose and perform on acoustic guitar. Here I discovered similarities in process with my previous installation works. It was surprising for me to make that strong connection between music and architecture; one is just floating and the other one is frozen.
